The cosmic pace accelerates with the First Quarter Square unfolding on January 28 with the Sun at 8° Aquarius and the Moon at 8° Taurus. Archetypally referred to as the “crisis of action,” this phase of the lunar cycle correlates to a need for decisive action and a willingness to sustain emerging ideas. As the astrological landscape evolves in the coming weeks, multiple forces are at play, asking us to propel forward and acclimate to a faster pace while staying grounded enough to recognize when patience and focus are required. This might be difficult since the urge to act powerfully is increasing every day. Here is why that it is:

  • Two key factors contribute to greater intensity and faster progress compared to recent months. The first is that no planets will be retrograde between January 22 and April 21, indicating a period of pure progress. However, months of potential energy has accumulated and bottled up, which could now result in a powerful, unrestrained release of untapped potential. It is essential to remember that the value of retrogrades is not just to inform us of what is and isn’t working but also to help us define what is most important to us. After months of reflection, we may have discovered what nourishes our spirit and fuels our sense of connection and joy. In other words, we may have discovered what it is we truly need.
  • The second noteworthy component is that the Sun at 8° Aquarius is currently in a close trine to Mars at 9° Gemini (exact on January 29). This amplifies the tremendous desire to unleash our energies. Gemini emphasizes increased levels of communication and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Mars in Gemini may also lead us to become overwhelmed and make mistakes. Remaining focused on our core needs can keep us on course without faltering.

Instead of acting indiscriminately, let’s allow ourselves to express our unique creativity and follow our true callings. Any momentum may be stifled if we attempt to revert to old and outworn patterns rather than to learn from new insights. We can make the most of this dynamic period by focusing on our priorities and working to keep our emerging ideas alive.

As mentioned in the Aquarius New Moon article, there is a pulsating Uranian vibration to this lunar cycle. A lingering trine between Mercury in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus, also exact on January 29, provides a resonant boost to the First Quarter Square mission to recognize our unique potential as creative individuals. Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, readies us to dedicate our soul power to the mission of joining with others in contributing our talents to the greater whole of humanity, and beyond, in the process of evolving consciousness at all levels, from the individual to the collective.

The Moon is conjunct the North Node and Uranus in Taurus, suggesting a need to willingly adapt to necessary change, and further to open our hearts to what may come, peacefully, without resistance. Change will then no longer feel like an uncomfortable or chaotic disruption, which fixed signs can oftentimes feel. Further, those crises whether they are big or small, are likely connected to the retaining of conditioning and even traumas that keeps us held in the past so we are unable to see new possibilties. All that is required is a simple yet profound attitude shift to witness everything impartially so we can see what there is to learn from it and apply it to our own ingenious way of operating in this reality.

The questions to ask ourselves this week are: What can I do to integrate the lessons I have learned to enhance my joy and take action in accordance with my greater purpose?
