The Sun and Moon align to form the New Moon at 1° Pisces on February 19 at 11:06 pm. Pisces is the last sign of the Zodiac and symbolizes the completion of the Sun’s annual cycle through the mandala of signs, beginning with the moment it casts the seeds of new ideas in Aries. The annual New Moon in Pisces represents a time to gather all the experiences of the cycle in loving embrace and come to understand what we learned from them. This contemplative process can lead us to release any hold the past has on us, especially memories of pain and suffering but also any attachment to our successes. This courageous act can dissolve all the egoic thoughts, considerations and beliefs we have about what we’ve been through. Our heart can break free of self-created defensive barriers and open us to the fullness of cosmic compassion. Coming in touch with the depths of unconditional Love emanating from within can give us an experience of being connected with all that is without. Referred to as Unity Consciousness, this experience of total connectedness thus prepares the ground with the Love essence that will fertilize the seeds cast forth into the Sun’s new annual cycle upon entering Aries.

In sync with this significant transitional moment, the Neptune-ruled lunar cycle has the distinction of initiating multiple waves of change over the next few weeks. Less than an hour after the New Moon on February 19, Venus joins Jupiter in Aries, signaling increased opportunities for new activity. Aries is characterized by a childlike sense of wonder and appreciation for new experiences. Venus in Aries represents passion and assertiveness, enabling us to pursue our goals enthusiastically and confidently. Similarly, Jupiter in Aries encourages us to broaden our horizons, explore our potential and perhaps initiate bold action.

Mercury in Aquarius trine Mars in Gemini on February 22 may ignite our desire to share ideas and connect with others. This flowing alignment promotes effective communication and active networking. Mercury in Aquarius indicates community-oriented, innovative thinking, while Mars in Gemini embodies flexibility, adaptability, and ease of engaging with others in intellectually stimulating ways.

The most profound shifts occur when Saturn enters Pisces on March 7 for an approximately 2.5 year stay to focus us on staying grounded as we work to infuse our life structures with Love. Finding balance between impartially seeing things as they are while maintaining compassion for self and other can allow us to learn and move on from our experiences with greater wisdom. On March 24, Pluto enters Aquarius, where it will remain for 20 years, archetypally working to transform how we use our personal power, from being motivated by personal gain to being of service to humanity. Pluto amplifies what it touches and in Aquarius, will keep us focused on the how our choices made today will impact our collective future.

The synchronized shifts during this lunar cycle create a fertile atmosphere for growth that will begin slowly but accelerate dramatically, ushering in important changes. Although it’s an exciting time of new beginnings, information is often in its infancy at a New Moon. It’s best to mitigate any tendency for impulsive behavior or excessive activity by maintaining a steady pace and using the dynamic energy to explore concepts and relate to others without feeling compelled to act prematurely.

This week we could ask ourselves: How can I stay open to the power of love and compassion as I engage with others in ways that bring fresh opportunities, creative ideas, and fulfilling growth experiences?
