The twice-annual eclipse season commencing this week accentuates the themes of the ongoing opposition between Jupiter in Libra and Uranus in Aries. The Sun in socially conscious Aquarius and the proud, regal Leo Moon trigger the Great Expander and the Great Disruptor February 9th through 11th.  Fire and air, cardinal and fixed energies charge up the current state of heightened chaos, disorder and confusion unleashed by the presidency of Donald Trump. The highly disruptive forces reverberating around the globe may reach a culmination point as the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse peaks on February 10th, forming a mystic rectangle combining the polarizing tension of the two oppositions (Jupiter/Uranus and Moon/Sun) with release points offered by two free flowing trines and two stimulating sextiles between the four astral bodies.  While the extreme reactionary conditions that led to this moment have been in a decades-long gestation period largely unnoticed by the general public, the abrupt and drastic changes of today certainly have their attention now. After two weeks of one exceedingly controversial executive order and cabinet nomination after another, the New York Times reported that the European Union now considers the U.S. the “biggest threat” to world stability because of the actions of President Trump “who seems every day to be picking a new fight with a new nation, whether friend or foe.” Literally and symbolically President Trump represents the Alt Right, an emboldened radical conservative movement associated with white nationalism, misogyny and anti-Semitism that is now fully exposed as it engages in direct clashes with those who desire a progressive, inclusive society, including Pope Francis.

The awakening of resistance to virtually everything the new president stands for is equally sudden and perhaps unexpected in its strength by the party now in control of the government. The result is a highly polarized nation that is likely to remain in a high state of chaos, disorder and confusion that will extend to its relationships with other nations, and we won’t know what the outcome will be for some time. Although the oft-discussed epochal Uranus/Pluto square is the decade long kingpin signature correlating to the old guard political establishment (Pluto in Capricorn), Democrat and Republican alike, abruptly ejected by an extreme game changer such as President Trump (Uranus in Aries), the Jupiter/Uranus opposition may be the defining astrological signature of 2017 as the disruptive President Trump and his team get up to speed in their new seats of power.

Jupiter in Libra, still quite potent having just turned retrograde, represents big movements related to how individuals in society relate to each other. True social equality is the ideal that is being challenged by a reactionary segment of society. Uranus in Aries symbolizes rebellion to anything that inhibits freedom from self-determination. Ironically, this is the rallying cry fomenting insurgent positions on both sides of the fight. The question for us all to contemplate is how can we be free as individuals (Uranus in Aries) and still harmoniously function together within society (Jupiter in Libra)? The eclipsed Moon aligning with shocking Uranus and big picture Jupiter represents our programming at the deepest, most hidden levels of consciousness being driven to the surface to give us the opportunity to honestly look at our collective reality. Eclipses are “inertia busters” according to Jim Sher, and what is releasing now is a reflection of that. (The effects of eclipses can be felt for months on either side of them and when planets aspect their sensitive degree points that can trigger events, realizations and/or discoveries as well.) A fascinating synchronicity is that the February 10th Full Moon Eclipse creates a Mystic Rectangle with President Trump’s natal Full Moon Eclipse.  Furthermore, the Uranus/Jupiter opposition forms a T-square with the president’s natal Venus/Saturn conjunction in Cancer (which morphs into a Grand Cross when including Pluto in the picture). This translates as tremendous pressure on the president’s agenda manifesting as massive resistance from the public that is only likely to become even stronger in the days ahead. On a personal level, the eclipse represents a catharsis, which may only be felt internally and not correlate to external events.

On February 13th, the Sun moves into a sextile to Saturn in Sagittarius, which is also closely aligned with Uranus (trine) and Jupiter (sextile). Saturn’s connection to this complex planetary configuration could manifest as even more deeply suppressed fears coming to light ready to be faced but also provide an anchor of stability and structure. When including Saturn in the Eclipse chart pattern, two Kites (a grand trine and two sextiles) emerge along with the afore-mentioned Mystic Rectangle (see chart image).  These flowing alignments represent a relatively rare opportunity for creative manifestation. Whatever ideas are being put into action now have the support needed to keep them on track.

A note about Venus in the Shadow: As is quite common in the movement of the planets, there are currents and counter currents. The hitch to the strong manifestation principle in the Sun/Moon/Jupiter/Saturn/Uranus configuration discussed above, is Venus currently traversing the first leg of the degree space she will travel three times due to her pending retrograde turn. The so called “Shadow” period figuratively means that what ever is initiated now will cast a “shadow” and therefore come under review during the retrograde period commencing on March 4th at 13° Aries and ending April 15th at 27° Pisces. Any new partnerships, romantic or otherwise, as well as literally anything we value put into motion during this time will be reappraised during the retrograde. As long as the intentions behind them are clear and the foundations solid, they should withstand any course corrections needed or new information received, no matter how unexpected or surprising. Providing support for those intentions, Mercury in objective Aquarius forms a sextile with Venus in Aries on February 10th, providing motivating vibrations for clear and harmonious communications with others – definitely what we need when working on manifesting.

Here’s the data (using Pacific Time and planetary positions rounded to the nearest whole degree, unless otherwise noted):

February 9 – Sun sextile Uranus at 21° Aquarius/Aries at 1:15 p.m.

February 10 – Mercury sextile Venus at 5° Aquarius/Aries at 1:18 p.m.

February 10 – Moon opposite Sun (Lunar Eclipse) 22° Leo/Aquarius at 4:33 p.m.

February 11 – Sun trine Jupiter at 23° Aquarius/Libra at 7:25 a.m.

February 13 – Sun sextile Saturn at 26° Aquarius/Sagittarius at 9:58 p.m.
