AstroCast: February 13 – 19, 2019

The Sun moves into gentle Pisces on February 18 shifting focus from the innovative yet impersonal nature of Aquarius, the sign that rules science, technology and social movements. Pisces rules consciousness, with a special emphasis on states of being that transcend physical reality. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac and acts as a repository of all existence. Its subtle call enters our awareness through symbolism, imagery, codes and other forms of expression that bypass our limited mind to reach deep into the psyche. In its highest expression it knows all, accepts all and loves all with the deepest compassion imaginable. The Pisces challenge is to summon the courage to show up to all that we’re experiencing, no matter how painful our current circumstances may be. When this sensitive sign is active some find it unbearable to face the harsh realities of Earth. They choose to escape the easy way by slipping into other worldly states via mind-altering substances. Even if life isn’t that bad, it may still be challenging to pull away from the ethereal beauty to see the specific areas of our lives that need focused attention lest they fall into a state of neglect. When Pisces is activated in our natal chart we may feel overwhelmed with all that needs to be done. When we develop the courage to be present we become able to contain increasing amounts of intensity and in the process begin to experience the sacredness of life.

On February 19, the Moon enters Virgo and shortly thereafter pulls into an exact opposition with the Sun, which is still at 0∞ Pisces. This Full Moon is a Supermoon due to its proximity to Earth, appearing larger in size and also having more emotional pull than a normal Full Moon. The Moon in Virgo is discriminating, analytical and precise. There is motivation to humbly serve where needed with efficiency and practicality. The challenge for Virgo is to not confuse purity of spirit with perfection and to let go of expectations that others will live up to its own high standards. Virgo’s path of development is to learn tolerance for different ways of being in order to successfully engage in the world of others. At the Full Moon we are given an opportunity to integrate the opposing sensibilities of spiritual experience and being grounded in a practical, material life where everything is clearly defined. Tuning into the Virgo Moon can help us avoid getting lost in vastness of the Piscean experience. It can help to focus on keeping things simple and process one thing at a time.

There is a wild card at the Full Moon due to its tight trine to Uranus in Aries. The planet of surprises in harmonious alignment with the Full Moon could awaken feelings we didn’t know we had, or open us to new information that gives us a better sense of who we are. Uranus asks us to question who the authority is in our lives. It can set up circumstances that reveal how we are operating with unconscious programming to detrimental effect. We may see how we have been blindly accepting what someone says or following common consensus only because it is what everyone else is doing. Uranus’ electrical force sparking the energy at the Full Moon could disrupt an old psychological pattern we learned in childhood or arouse dormant feelings we suppressed out of fear of how others would react. If we allow our deeper soul feelings to rise, we could gain a new sense of aliveness.

The Full Moon tightly aspects my Pisces/Virgo Ascendant/Descendant axis, which is likely to amplify how others perceive me and how I perceive them. It will be a good test of how well I am integrating my spiritual, imaginative nature with my detailed, practical nature. While it is easy for me to handle projects that are clear-cut, it has been an ongoing challenge for me to stand my ground in relationships to ensure they are in balance and my needs are met. The Full Moon may correlate to new information coming to light that shows me where I am in my efforts to be clearer with others, or there may be a new development in the status of a relationship that brings a sense of fulfillment. At work I’m undergoing staffing changes with a new person coming in who will change the dynamic of the existing team in ways that are not yet known to me. I view this as an opportunity for me to build a new relationship from this position of greater awareness. With Uranus active at the Full Moon, I could also receive some unexpected feedback from my colleagues about the difficult hurdles I had to navigate during the staffing project.

We would love to hear about your personal experiences. Please feel free to share them in the comments box below.
